In January of 1994, two graduate students at Stanford University, Jerry Yang and David Filo created what we know now as Yahoo! Initially called “Jerry’s Guide to the World Wide Web,” Yahoo turned into a directory that organized other internet sites to a hierarchy. The background of Yahoo begins.

To help rebuild itself, Yahoo! Formed partnerships with telecommunication companies and internet providers, those alliances caused the creation of material rich broadband solutions that actively competed with AOL.

Yahoo! Uses a mix of web crawlers compiled and indexed results to rank the sites that are enrolled in their internet search engine. Back in March of 2004 Yahoo launched a paid inclusion services. Webmasters can, for a commission, buy a submission to Yahoo!’s human-compiled directory. The yearly fee is all about three hundred dollars. The concept is that the listing human’s provided will influence net crawlers to give the website a higher position. The paid inclusion program proved to be a rewarding venture for Yahoo but was unpopular with webmasters. Paid inclusion did not guarantee a top ranking; it merely ensured that the business would be ranked.

Yahoo!, like other businesses, keeps its eye on the future. Presently Yahoo! Supplies a great number of services which appeal to nearly all online activities. These services include Yahoo!

Mail, Yahoo! Groups, Yahoo! Maps and Driving Directions, and Yahoo! Messenger. While Google retains the top spot in search engines Yahoo! Is standing strong in second place. Yahoo!
